ATOS Scholarships

Back to the ATOS in Action main page

The ATOS Board of Directors is pleased to offer student scholarships in 2008. Through this program, theatre organ students are given assistance to further their study with a professional theatre organ teacher or to further their musical education in organ performance at the college level. The ATOS Scholarship Committee chairperson will help beginning theatre organ students find a theatre organ teacher in their locality. Recipients of scholarships in 2007 are eligible to apply for a scholarship in 2008 if the committee determines that the student has demonstrated exceptional progress. Contact the committee chairperson for details. Applicants must be 13 through 27 years of age as of July 1, 2008. Two categories of scholarships are offered:

Category A - Organ students studying with professional theatre organ instructors
Category B
- Theatre organ students furthering their musical education by working toward a college organ performance degree

Students may apply for the scholarships which are available in the two categories. Each category has a separate application form. Application forms and instructions are available in PDF format for viewing and printing. There have been some changes in the requirements and categories this year, so applicants should review the instructions and application forms carefully. Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2008.

David L. Junchen Technical Scholarship

The American Theatre Organ Society recognizes the need for excellence in theatre pipe organ maintenance, restoration, and installation. Therefore, the David L. Junchen Technical Scholarship was created for the express purpose allowing the recipient the opportunity of attending the national convention of the American Institute of Organbuilders.

Recipients of this scholarship must have demonstrated an aptitude and desire for a greater level of competence in the design, restoration, maintenance, and installation of theatre pipe organs. By pursuing the greater knowledge of pipe organ design, construction, tonal finishing, and business management techniques, the recipient can contribute to the future assurance of quality theatre pipe organs.
