May ATOS Happenings

With spring well underway, its been great to travel to theatre organ events without the winter’s travel limitations. Most recently I visited a new home installation and heard the wonderful contributions that a tonal finishing can make to a theatre pipe organ.
For those near central California, you may want to review the Sierra Chapters website at http://www.sierrachapteratos.org/ and consider attending a Walt Strony event at the Ironstone Winery on May 20, 2018. I’m making the trip and hope to see you there.

Summer Activities

This past week the latest issue of the Theatre Organ Journal arrived with great information about installations we will be enjoying at the 2018 ATOS Annual Convention in Pasadena, California. If you have not registered, hotel space is becoming very limited, so don’t delay your registration any longer.
Those ATOS members in the Los Angeles area, whether registered for the Annual Convention or not, can attend the ATOS Annual Membership Meeting at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel at 4 PM on Friday, May 29, 2018.
The Journal contains notice of this year’s Summer Youth Adventure to be held in the Atlanta, GA area July 15-20, 2018. The ATOS website has a link to the registration information at http://www.atos.org/program/summer-youth-adventure.

Now in the planning stages is an ATOS Technical Experience in Indianapolis, Indiana for August 6 to 9, 2018. This will be held at the professional theatre organ restoration work shop of Carlton Smith Pipe Organ Restorations. So far, the instructors will be Carlton Smith, Clark Wilson and Justin Nimmo.

Officer’s Election

Also, within this latest Journal issue on page 5, is notice of the Board of Director’s meeting and the election of officers for our next fiscal year. Any person at least 18 years of age who has had continuous ATOS membership for at least the last two years is eligible to seek appointment as an officer. Officers are elected for one-year terms for the positions of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer. Candidates for these offices are encouraged to submit written résumés to the ATOS Chairman, Richard Neidich, by May 29, 2018. It is strongly recommended that nominations be sent via “return receipt” or similar mail class if international. Nominations may also be sent digitally; however, the sender MUST verify receipt of the nomination by the ATOS Chairman. Any written materials that are submitted to the ATOS Chairman by the above date will be distributed to the Board of Directors prior to the Board meeting.

Chapters Showcase

All chapter leaders have been reminded of this year’s ATOS Chapters Showcase effort. Submissions must be done before the end of May to permit production prior to the ATOS Annual Convention. Details can be found here: http://www.atos.org/chapter-showcase-0.
