Chapter
Red River Theatre Organ SocietyOrgan
Location
This organ began its life as a 2/7 Style 'E X' Wurlitzer (opus 1255) and was installed in February/March 1926 in the Fargo Theatre for an approximate cost of $25,000. It fell out of use permanently in 1948 and was restored by members of the Red River Theatre Organ Society in 1973, headed by Lance E. Johnson, Owner/President of the Johnson Organ Company in Fargo/Moorhead. In early 1979, the original 2-manual console was replaced by a 3-manual refurbished church Wurlitzer console (opus 2127). Between 1979-86, the organ was expanded to 15 ranks. As part of the Fargo Theatre's major restoration that took place in 1998-99, Johnson Organ Co. built a 4-manual console which was premiered to the public in March, 1999. The organ was expanded to a 4/21 over the next few years, eventually capping off at 4/32 in the summer of 2017.
