Chapter
Red River Theatre Organ SocietyOrgan
Location
This organ began its life as a 2/7 Style 'E X' Wurlitzer (opus 1255) and was installed in February/March 1926 in the Fargo Theatre for an approximate cost of $25,000. The theatre opened on March 15, 1926. The organ fell out of use in 1948 and did not play for 25 years. In 1973, the organ was restored by members of the Red River Theatre Organ Society, headed by Lance E. Johnson, Owner/President of the Johnson Organ Company in Fargo/Moorhead. In early 1979, the original 2-manual console was replaced by a 3-manual refurbished church Wurlitzer console (opus 2127). Between 1979-86, the organ was expanded to 15 ranks. As part of the Fargo Theatre's major restoration that took place in 1998-99, Johnson Organ Co. built a 4-manual console which was premiered to the public on March 20, 1999. The organ was expanded to a 4/21 over the next few years, eventually capping off at 4/32 in the summer of 2017. Following the launching of RRTOS's capital campaign in July 2023, the organ's size became 4/27 in early 2026..
