GSTOS is proud to be screening Fritz Lang’s iconic 1927 silent epic, METROPOLIS at the historic Patriots Theater at
the Trenton War Memorial. One of the most celebrated movies in cinema history and a key influence on contemporary
films like Blade Runner and Star Wars, METROPOLIS continues to be relevant 90 years later with themes of social
stratification, rebellion, and ill effects of technology. GSTOS will present the 2010 digital restoration of the film; this
includes 25 minutes of footage that was lost for 80 years. The integration of these newly restored scenes and subplots
endow METROPOLIS with even greater tension as it dramatizes the conflict between wealthy über-capitalists and
rebellious subterranean laborers, orchestrated by a diabolical scientist capable of destroying them both.
Brett will be playing Gottfried Huppertz’ original film score for this production.
With support from the Al Hirschfeld Foundation, there will be a special presentation of Hirschfeld drawings of silent
screen stars shown before the film, accompanied by the Pennridge High School Jazz Ensemble.
David Leopold, Creative Director of the Al Hirschfeld Foundation says, “We are big believers that you can do good
while having a good time, and with METROPOLIS, Brett and the Jazz Ensemble, this is going to be a good time. All you
have to do to do good is to buy a ticket.”
