The ATOS Technical experience is a four-day seminar that provides hands-on training for anyone interested in the technical aspects of the theatre pipe organ. The experience covers a variety of subjects, including moving about an organ chamber, care of pipes, tuning, blower control, winding fundamentals, chest restoration, and much more.
This annual event brings the finest technicians and installers together with young technicians, chapter volunteers and others who wish to learn the proper methods of restoration.
Since the very first Technical Experience was presented in 2010, six seminars have been held annually. Each seminar presented covered a major subject area, with regard to proper restoration of a theatre pipe organ. We have now come full circle and the 2018 will begin the seminar series over again with the very basics of restoration. It will include proper materials to use and craftsmanship techniques for releathering manual and offset chests.
2019 Technical Experience
August 5 - 8, 2019
ATOS is pleased to offer the 9th Annual Technical Experience for participants 18 years of age and older. This year the Technical Experience will be presented a bit differently. There will be 2 main seminars presented over the first three days. The first seminar focuses on the complete rebuilding of “theatre organ” regulators of which there will be “hands on” experience for all participants. The Second seminar will be on the basics of releathering techniques for Barton, Wurlitzer manual chests.
If time allows and participants are interested, part of the last day can consist of a field trip to the Hilbert Circle Theatre 3/24 Wurlitzer, a fully professional restoration of a theatre organ and the Warren Performing Arts Center 3/18 Barton, an ATOS chapter restoration.
This year Carlton Smith, Clark Wilson and Justin Nimmo will be the primary instructors with possible additional teaching assistance from special guests.
There will not be an official hotel this year as with the increased hotel membership discounts and discount sites, etc. Participants can get a better rate than a contracted group rate. You are responsible for making your own hotel reservations. A list of hotels all within a short distance of one another is provided below.
